1Halloween had come to Maple Hollow. There were capes, pointy hats, and pumpkins on every doorstep. Pip puffed up his cheeks. “Boo!” It came out as a squeak.
2“Come to the party!” called Rabbit. Pip looked down at his tiny feet. “But I’m too small to be spooky.” He nudged a leaf with his toe. The leaf was nearly as big as he was.
3Rustle, rustle! What was in the bush? A little hedgehog peeped out. “I’ve lost the path,” he whispered. “And it’s so dark.” Pip looked at his own little glow.
4“Walk beside me,” said Pip. His light showed them one safe step. Then another. And another. Rabbit hopped along beside them. Crunch, crunch went the leaves.
5Soon they reached a bright front door. Knock, knock. “Trick or treat!” Mrs. Fox held out a bowl of sweets. “Thank you!” the three friends called. Then off they went to the party.
6“You helped me feel brave,” said Hedgehog. Pip’s little smile grew wide. He lifted his arms. “Boo!” His friends giggled. This time, Pip giggled too.
