How to continue a picture book

Add the next chapter, or start book two. Your characters, places and art style come back as they were — only what is new gets drawn.

Part 1

Pick up your book

Open a finished book from your shelf and choose Expand the story.

Read the steps
  1. Open the book's menu Every finished book on your shelf can keep going. Open its menu and choose Expand the story — more chapters, more books, a whole series.
  2. Your book's page Expand the story opens the book's own page: the story so far, the finished book, and two ways to go on — add a chapter to this book, or finish it and start the next one.

Part 2

Write the next chapter

Say what happens next; chapter two opens with your characters already picked, and Pudding writes it from where the story left off.

  1. Say what happens next Choose Add a chapter to this book. The title is optional — one line about what happens next is enough.
  2. Your characters are already picked Chapter two opens with your idea and this book's characters already selected as familiar faces. Anyone new you name gets drawn fresh. Press send when it looks right.
  3. Pudding writes the chapter Pudding writes the new chapter from where the story left off. Writing it uses credits, the same way a new story does.
  4. It remembers chapter one The new chapter remembers what came before. In the demo, Wren still keeps the first paper boat and remembers who folded it.

Part 3

Same friends, same look

Returning characters and places are reused, only new things are drawn, and the pages come out in the same art style.

  1. Returning, not redrawn The characters, places and props that come back from chapter one are marked Returning and reused as they were. Only what is new in this chapter gets drawn.
  2. Same style, same characters The pages are painted in the book's art style — there is no style to choose again — with the same characters on every page.
  3. Two chapters, one book Back on the book's page, the new chapter sits right after the first, both marked complete.

Start book two

Finish the book, see what it will remember, and start book two with the same characters.

  1. Finish the book When the book is done, choose Finish this book. A memory card shows what this book will remember for the next one. Save and finish.
  2. Start book two Choose Start Book 2 and say what the new story is about. Once the new book is created, book one is sealed and can no longer take new chapters.
  3. Same friends, new adventure Book two opens with the same characters ready. Press send, and the next adventure begins.

What is the difference between a chapter and a new book?

A chapter continues the same book. A new book starts a fresh story in the same series, with the same characters and art style. Once the new book is created, the previous one is sealed and cannot take new chapters.
