Story Night in the Duskhollow burrow
Friday night in the Duskhollow burrow — and Story Night waits for nobody. The four badgers pile onto the sofa in a cheerful scramble. Blankets are yanked, popcorn is passed, and Corra plants her flag on the best corner cushion with both paws. “Best seat. Mine. Official.”
星期五晚上，暮谷地洞裡——而故事之夜可不等人。四隻獾興高采烈地擠上沙發。大家拉來毯子、傳著爆米花，柯拉用兩隻爪子搶佔了最棒的角落靠墊，像插旗一樣宣示主權。「最好的位子。我的。官方認證。」
Lights out
Dobson raises the remote with great ceremony — and every lantern in the burrow blinks out at once. Blackness, a single fizzing crackle, and the soft thud of Pip’s stuffed mushroom hitting the floor. Marra reaches into a cardigan pocket and lights one small emergency candle. “This candle burns for about as long as a very good story. So. No pressure.”
多布森隆重地舉起遙控器——地洞裡所有的燈籠立刻同時熄滅。一片漆黑，一聲嘶嘶作響的輕微爆裂聲，接著是皮普的絨毛蘑菇玩偶掉到地板上的悶響。瑪拉從開襟毛衣口袋裡拿出一根小小的緊急蠟燭並點亮它。「這根蠟燭燃燒的時間，大約和一個非常棒的故事一樣久。所以，別有壓力。」
We each invent one part
Corra stands up on the sofa cushion, one arm raised, the candle flame catching the stripes on her pyjamas. “Story Night is NOT cancelled. We each invent one part. Out loud. Right now. In the dark.” From somewhere in the blankets, a small voice asks: “…Can Gerald have a part?”
柯拉站到沙發靠墊上，一隻手臂高高舉起，燭火映亮了她睡衣上的條紋。「故事之夜才沒有取消。我們每個人各編一段。大聲說出來。現在。就在黑暗裡。」毯子深處傳來一個小小的聲音問道：「……傑拉德可以有一段嗎？」
The story lurches gloriously sideways
Corra opens with a brave explorer crossing a midnight forest, trees as tall as secrets. Dobson leaps up and hijacks it with a roaring river, arms churning like paddles. Marra adjusts her glasses and adds a tower whose stones are stars, to be stacked brightest, then warmest, then oldest. Then everyone turns to Pip, who holds up Gerald and says, in a small and absolutely certain voice: “The explorer had a friend. A small mushroom called Gerald. Gerald was there the whole time.” The room dissolves into laughter.
柯拉先開場，說的是一位勇敢的探險家穿越午夜森林，樹木高得像祕密。多布森跳起來接手故事，加入一條咆哮的大河，雙臂像槳一樣划動。瑪拉推了推眼鏡，補上一座高塔，塔的石頭都是星星，要按照最亮、再來最溫暖、最後最古老的順序堆疊。接著，大家都轉向皮普。皮普舉起傑拉德，用小小卻無比肯定的聲音說：「探險家有一個朋友。一朵叫傑拉德的小蘑菇。傑拉德一直都在。」房間裡頓時笑成一團。
Two endings at once
Corra and Dobson both straighten up, each certain they know how the story ends — hers soaring and poetic, his a magnificent and baffling sound effect. They fold their arms and the candle gutters. Then Pip lifts Gerald between them like a small, serious referee. “Gerald says they both end at the same time.” A beat of silence — and then, unrehearsed, they both speak at once. Their endings tangle into something completely wonderful, and Marra traces the last line in the air with her fingertip: “And Gerald was home.”
柯拉和多布森都挺直身子，各自確信自己知道故事該怎麼結束——柯拉的結局高遠又充滿詩意，多布森的則是一個氣勢磅礴又莫名其妙的音效。他們抱起手臂，蠟燭的火焰忽明忽暗。接著皮普把傑拉德舉在兩人中間，像一位小小而嚴肅的裁判。「傑拉德說，兩個結局要同時結束。」短暫的沉默後——沒有排練過的他們，兩人同時開口。他們的結局交纏成一個無比美妙的故事，而瑪拉用指尖在空中寫下最後一句話：「而傑拉德回家了。」
From the top?
The lanterns hum back on. The television clicks to life and the film’s title card glows on the screen. All four badgers turn and look at it for a long, quiet moment. Then Corra picks up the remote and clicks it off. The candle had just enough story left in it. Blankets are pulled back in, Gerald is tucked under Pip’s chin, and Corra settles into her corner. “From the top?” “Gerald says yes.”
燈籠嗡嗡地重新亮起。電視喀噠一聲啟動，影片的標題卡在螢幕上發光。四隻獾轉過頭，安靜地望著它好一會兒。接著柯拉拿起遙控器，按下按鈕把它關掉。蠟燭裡的故事剛好還沒燃盡。大家重新拉好毯子，傑拉德被塞在皮普的下巴底下，柯拉也安坐回她的角落。「從頭再來？」「傑拉德說好。」

把它投放到電視上，調暗燈光，讓它成為一個小小的特別時刻。三分鐘的片長讓它成為這一系列中最長的影片，而這正是重點——家庭故事之夜需要的是一部有電影感的作品，而不是一段短片。
