The clover meadow stretched wide beneath the open sky. Twilight Sparkle trotted in first, wings folded against her purple sides and horn catching the last warm light.
Pinkie Pie bounced in behind her, curly mane springing. "Are we here? Is this the spot?" she sang, spinning a happy little circle in the clover.
They had no basket and no sandwiches. But Twilight tilted her head up. "Look. The picnic is already laid out for us."
Above them, clouds drifted slowly. They were bright, clean white, like fresh snow on a high mountain.
The sun dipped lower and peach crept into the cloud edges. Pinkie gasped. "That mushroom has gone peachy! It looks like a giant scone!"
"Peach," said Twilight quietly, as if writing the word on an invisible chalkboard. "Warm peach."
Twilight laughed — a real, surprised laugh. She looked up at the lavender cloud and felt something warm settle in her chest, like a good and quiet thing.
"That one is a lavender bunny," Pinkie announced firmly. "With very large ears and a confused expression."
Pinkie's voice became hushed. "There are so many colors. All at the same time. In the same sky."
White, peach, lavender, and blue glowed together. "The sky never picks just one," Twilight said. Pinkie rested her chin in the clover as the clouds drifted on.
